Clearing your computer history

Please note every time you view a web site your computer keeps a history of your visit in the browsers cache (Temporary Internet folder). To clear your computers history, please see below for the top three internet browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox and Netscape. If you feel you may be at risk in the future please use a public computer and your local library or internet café.

How Do I Clear My History in Internet Explorer?

Windows

  • With Internet Explorer open, click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
  • Double click on Internet Options and click on the General Tab at the top of the window that just appeared.
  • Now click the Clear History button and when prompted, select Yes.
  • Click Ok, and your done.

Macintosh

  • With Internet Explorer open, click on the Explorer menu followed by Preferences.
  • On the next screen you should have a menu bar down the left side. Under "Web Browser" should be an option named Advanced. If it is not visible, click the triangle beside Web Browser to expand the list. Now click the Advanced Option.
  • Now click the Clear History button. Press Ok to finish.

How Do I Clear My Cache in Internet Explorer?

Windows

  • With Internet Explorer open, click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
  • Double click on Internet Options and click on the General Tab at the top of the window that just appeared.
  • Under the heading "Temporary Internet Files" click the Delete Files button, place a check in Delete all offline content, and click OK
  • Click Ok, and your done.

Macintosh OS

  • Open Internet Explorer and click on Explorer and then Preferences.
  • On the next screen you should have a menu bar down the left side. Under "Web Browser" should be an option named Advanced. If it is not visible, click the triangle beside Web Browser to expand the list. Now click the Advanced Option.
  • To your right, click on the Empty Now button.

How Do I Clear My Cookies in Internet Explorer?

Windows

  • With Internet Explorer open, click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
  • Double click on Internet Options and click on the General Tab at the top of the window that just appeared
  • Now click the Delete Cookies button and when prompted, select OK.
  • Click Ok, and your done.

Macintosh

  • With Internet Explorer open, click on the Explorer menu and select Preferences.
  • On the next screen you should have a menu bar down the left side. Under "Receiving Files" should be an option named Cookies. If it is not visible, click the triangle beside Web Browser to expand the list. Now click the Cookies Option.
  • Highlight the cookie(s) you wish to delete and click the Delete button.
  • When you have completed that press OK to exit.

  • Click on Start
  • Search and select All files or folders
  • Under file name enter cookies.txt
  • Under Look in... , select My Computer , then press ENTER on your keyboard.
  • Click and highlight the file in the results list named cookies.txt and hit the DELETE key on your keyboard. When prompted to confirm sending to recycle bin, click Yes
  • Repeat step 4 for all cookies.txt files that are listed in the search results window.

Windows 98, ME

  • Click on Start
  • Find and select All files and folders
  • Under file name enter cookies.txt
  • Under Look in... , select My Computer , then press ENTER on your keyboard.
  • Click and highlight the file in the results list named cookies.txt and hit the DELETE key on your keyboard. When prompted to confirm sending to recycle bin, click Yes

  • Click on Finder, on the top right hand corner of your screen.
  • Now Select the File menu and then Find.
  • Select the Hard Drive icon, enter the word "cookies.txt" without the quotation marks and then click the search button.
  • Delete all copies of cookies.txt the search finds.
